Tip Of The Day – 10/1/2014
Anemones seem like immobile invertebrates that don’t require huge amounts of space, but in reality, this is quite the opposite. Most grow to be quite large, and while they may stay in one spot for a lengthy time, they can wander around the aquarium at will. On top of that, anemones require fairly pristine water conditions. None of these can be easily met by a nano aquarium, and even hobbyists with larger tanks have difficult times with some species. For that reason, anemones should be left to seasoned aquarium keepers. Sure, the bubble tip clones (e.g. rose bubble tip anemones) that are so pervasive do fair well in most aquariums, but larger species like the Heteractis magnifica do very poorly.
